Coffee is on the deck at first light with a stack of paper and a pencil. Write until the fog lifts off the canyon. That's the whole thing.
IncludedNew Season is a unique sanctuary in the Topanga Mountains, 40 mins from Los Angeles, where the coastline gives way to wilderness.
Here silent retreat meets spa. New Season is an adult-only restorative space. Calm your nervous system in a sound bath, ayurvedic massage or simply rest in water.

A hand-plastered Boulder for two on the high edge of the acre: thick earthen walls that hold the cool, folding wooden doors that open the whole front to the oaks, a bed you'll remember, and a deep tub facing the canyon. No neighbours in sight. No one else on the property but you.

An acre of coast live oak, sage and sandstone that we are letting go back to itself. There is a spring, a meadow, a fire circle and a network of short paths that end at views. The land sets the schedule here; we mostly follow it.

Bodywork, sound, breath and heat, on request and in your own time. Practitioners come up to you: to the Boulder, or to the platform under the oaks when the weather allows. Nothing is on the schedule until you put it there.
An architecturally unique boulder retreat, an outdoor soaking tub with views that reset the soul.

A place to explore and enjoy an exciting change of your personal season. Sit still under the oaks, take in a view. Learn the language of hawks.
Every treatment is booked for you privately and comes to the property. Most happen inside the Boulder on a heated table, or on the oak platform when the weather allows. Book with a day's notice through us; we'll confirm the practitioner and a time that suits the light.
A full-body session that draws from Swedish, Californian, Thai stretching and deep tissue, tuned to what your body is doing that day rather than a fixed routine. Warm oil infused with sage from the acre; long slow strokes to start, deeper work through the shoulders, hips and jaw where the city collects.
Good for the first afternoon, when you've just arrived and are still moving at freeway speed.
Bundles of white sage, yerba santa, bay and lavender are steamed and pressed along the spine, legs and feet, then worked in with slow compression. The heat opens the muscles; the plants do the rest. It smells like the hillside after rain.
Especially good in autumn and winter, and for anyone who runs cold.
You lie on the oak platform as the light goes, wrapped in wool, while gongs, bowls and low binaural tones are played around and over you. The canyon adds its own sounds. Most people drift into the space between sleeping and waking and come back forty minutes later not sure where they went.
Designed for two, and best booked for the last evening of your stay.
Thirty minutes of guided breathing on the deck, then a walk down to the spring basin and three minutes in water that stays around 50°F most of the year. Ana holds the count and the nerve. You come out with your head unusually clear.
Shorter than you think, better than you expect. Not for anyone pregnant or with a heart condition.
A cedar barrel sauna sits on the slope below the Boulder with its door facing the canyon. Heat for fifteen minutes, plunge in the spring basin, rest on the rocks, repeat as many rounds as you like. Towels, water and a bowl of oranges are left for you.
Included in every stay. We light it for you on arrival and show you how it works.
A short consultation, then a session on the table in the Boulder aimed at whatever you've brought up the hill: sleep, stress, a shoulder that won't let go, a mind that won't slow down. Cupping or moxa if it helps. Quiet afterwards is part of the treatment, so nothing else is booked for an hour either side.
Book at least two days ahead.
Nothing here is a workshop and no one will ask what you're working on. Paint a landscape, make something with clay. Book a session and find a new sensation that sparks your interest.

Included
The studio holds about six hundred records, from Alice Coltrane to Arthur Russell to things we can't explain. Pull one, open the doors, let it play out over the meadow.
IncludedAn easel, gouache, charcoal and good paper are in the studio. The light on the sandstone between three and five is the reason people paint here.
IncludedA projector, a stretched screen between two trunks and a stack of blankets. Bring a film or pick from ours. Coyotes provide the sound design.
A day's noticeA canyon potter comes up with a wheel and local clay, or a dyer with pots of sage, walnut and madder. Two hours, your hands, something to take home.
A day's notice
Twenty minutes up, an hour on the shelf, twenty minutes down. Guided if you'd like company, mat and breath practice on the platform after.
IncludedThe meadow goes green, then gold in six weeks. Lupine on the western slope. Nights still cold enough for the stove.
Marine layer until eleven, then long dry heat and the smell of sage. The plunge earns its keep. Screenings most nights.
The clearest air of the year. Sycamores turn, the acorns drop, and the canyon empties out. Our favourite. Santa Ana days are for the sauna.
Rain, when it comes, fills the spring and turns the whole acre loud. Stove lit all day. The best season for the studio.
